Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is a relatively low voltage applied over painful areas through small self-adhesive electrodes connected to a small, portable device called a TENS unit. The electrical stimulation “disguises” or “overrides” the sensation of pain. The TENS unit is used in intervals, to control pain and reduce dependence on drugs. It is usually prescribed for pain relief.
